During this past weekend’s episode of A Prairie Home Companion, Jim James made an appearance as one of this week’s special guests along with fellow musician Aimee Mann and comedian Hari Kondabolu. The My Morning Jacket frontman first joined host Chris Thile in the middle of the show, which was taped at St. Paul, Minnesota’s Fitzgerald Theatre, where the musician performed solo renditions of New Multitudes’ “Changing World” and Quincy Jones’ “Everything Must Change.” James later reemerged half an hour later for an interview segment before additional solo performances of James’ “Here In Spirit” and My Morning Jacket’s “Wonderful.” To close out the show, Thile, James, Sara Watkins, Richard Dworsky, and The Show Band came together to cover Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” as a tribute to the late Chris Cornell, who unexpected passing last week has made waves across the music community.Watch Trey Anastasio Pay Tribute To Leon Russell On “A Prairie Home Companion”You can listen to this weekend’s episode of A Prairie Home Companion featuring Jim James here. (@_CDMarcum) June 18, 2020Carolina could have gone full Zoom call and added Newton, Greg Olsen (another less-than-happy exit), DeAngelo Williams (ditto), Thomas Davis and the late Sam Mills, among others. (Christian McCaffrey still has a way to go.) Instead, it went with just three, and the MVP and Super Bowl quarterback didn’t make the cut.If that was done just for the clicks, then, well-played, Panthers. If that was done because of how the breakup went, then, well, that was a . . . catty thing to do. No way that was the case, right?MORE: Former Newton teammate says Panthers mismanaged injuries for years NFL fans on Twitter broke out their finest Cam Newton GIFs on Wednesday after the Panthers omitted their longtime quarterback from a poll to decide who is the greatest player in franchise history.Carolina went with Julius Peppers (reply), Steve Smith Sr. (retweet) and Luke Kuechly (like). Maybe the limited Twitter voting options forced an impossible decision.
