Sugar Bears’ Tippett, Ladyjacks’ Daron Receive Volleyball Weekly Awards

first_imgThe Ladyjacks (9-2) extended their winning streak to five matches, defeating ULM, Tennessee State, St. John’s, Stetson, Grambling in Nacogdoches. They conclude non-conference matches with a home tilt Tuesday at 5 p.m. CT against Rice before competing at the North Texas Challenge this weekend in Denton. SFA will see Wichita State, the host Mean Green and Mississippi State. Offensive Player of the Week: Haley Tippett, Central Arkansas – Sr. – Outside Hitter – Roanoke, TexasTippett earned MVP honors at the Central Arkansas Invitational after leading the Sugar Bears to a 3-0 record. The Roanoke, Texas, native turned a pair of double-doubles, her fourth and fifth of the season, and missed out on a third by just one dig. She hit at least .298 in every match. After opening the week with 24 kills and 19 digs against Little Rock, the senior outside hitter added 14 kills and nine digs in a sweep of South Dakota. Closing out the weekend against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Tippett recorded 11 kills and 10 digs. FRISCO, Texas – Central Arkansas senior Haley Tippett and Stephen F. The Crosby, Texas, product tied her career-best in block assists on two occasions this week, racking up seven against ULM and Tennessee State. Daron never failed to total fewer than four blocks in each match she played in, leading SFA in blocks per set with a 1.12 mark in 2018.Honorable Mention: Kaitlyn Grice, New Orleans; Channing Burleson, Northwestern State; Lillian Drever, Abilene Christian. The Sugar Bears (8-2) played a perfect week at home, defeating each of their opponents (Little Rock, South Dakota and Arkansas-Pine Bluff) in straight sets to win the Central Arkansas Invitational. They wrap up non-conference action at the A-State Invitational in Jonesboro, Ark., this weekend, facing the host Red Wolves, Jackson State and Southern Illinois.
