Pardew: Palace have nothing to lose

first_img “We’ve got a team with the pressure off at the moment,” Pardew said. “I think for Mr Pellegrini and his team it’ll worry them that we’re at home and our stadium is obviously very buoyant. We’re a dangerous team to play. “You’ve got the two contrasts – a team playing under pressure and it’s a bonus game for us. “I’ve been serving it up to my players as that so we play with a freedom. “Sometimes when you play the top teams you don’t really have to worry about the work rate or discipline. Nine times out of 10 players know they need to do that. “It’s the other side of the game. Keeping the ball, having the ambition, flair and confidence to take the top teams on. “That’s something that will be important on Monday night – we’ve got to show that.” Palace sat in the bottom three when Pardew arrived in January but the new manager has turned the club’s season around with an excellent run of form. Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has warned Manchester City his side have nothing to lose on Monday night and wants the Eagles to put on a show against the reigning champions. City sit nine points behind league leaders Chelsea after the Blues beat Stoke on Saturday, while the reigning champions have also been overtaken by Arsenal and Manchester United to lie fourth. Palace meanwhile look to have already achieved their objective of securing Barclays Premier League survival, with six wins in 10 league games since Pardew took over at the start of the year. “The results we have gained have been terrific and beyond expectations really,” Pardew said. “Across the board we have had a lift and the biggest factor has been the psychology. “A new manager has come in with new ideas, we won the first game and that is always important. “The belief has stayed with us. We have had a couple of defeats but we have kicked on again. “The Man City game is one we could easily lose but I don’t think we will lose confidence whatever the result.” Press Associationlast_img
