Juventus chief claims: Falcao wanted to join us, not Man United!

first_img1 Radamel Falcao wanted to join Juventus before he opted for a move to Manchester United this summer, according to the Serie A club’s CEO Giuseppe Marotta.Falcao signed for United on a season-long loan on transfer deadline day in September, joining the Red Devils from French club Monaco. The temporary deal is reportedly costing Louis van Gaal’s men around £20m, including wages and a loan fee paid to Monaco. And, according to Marotta, it is the huge costs involved which prevented Falcao from making the switch to Juventus instead of the Premier League side.“We were following him and there was contact,” Marotta told RAI.“We were very close to [signing] Falcao and the player preferred Italy and our colours, but then United came forward and they have much more spending power than we do so the deal broke down.”Falcao’s Old Trafford career has yet to fully take off.He has scored just one goal this season and missed the draw with Chelsea at the weekend through injury.
