JOE BROLLY – “DERRY HAVEN’T A HOPE OF BEATING DONEGAL IN ULSTER SEMI-FINAL”

first_imgGAA: RTE pundit and former All-Ireland winner Joe Brolly has said Derry haven’t a chance of overcoming Donegal in their Ulster SFC semi-final clash next weekend.Joe BrollyDonegal have been impressive in the Ulster SFC so far earning victories over Tyrone and Armagh to set-up the clash with Brian McIver’s Derry side.Donegal’s ruthless execution of Armagh in the first-half on Sunday was exceptional – and sent a reminder to other counties with aspirations on winning the All-Ireland that while McGuinness may have left it’s business as usual under the tutelage of Rory Gallagher. RTE pundit Brolly holds no hope for his native county and expects Donegal to sweep them to one side in Clones next Saturday evening.Brolly fears Derry are far too defensive and don’t have an offensive strategy to dismantle Donegal. He fears they’ll sit on the ropes against Donegal, and he says if you do that against Donegal you’ll get punished.Brolly said, “Derry have plenty of quality footballers, and in my opinion we have the best full-back line in terms of man-to-man marking. “We have two of the best forwards in the game in Eoin Bradley and Mark Lynch and we’re very formidable at midfield.“We’ve certainly got potential, but we’re a mess, we’re obsessed with defence and have no attacking plan at all.“That’s not going to be good enough against Donegal, we sat back on the ropes against them last year in Celtic Park and we inevitably lost.“If you sit back on the ropes against Donegal then the same thing will happen Derry as it did Armagh, we’ll get hammered.Donegal’s odds have shortened on winning both the Ulster SFC and All-Ireland titles following Sunday’s exhibition against Armagh. As Brolly and Spillane both said Donegal are in rude health and it will take a top, top side to stop. Some pundits are claiming that Gallagher has taken Donegal to another level and has galvanised and freshened up his squad. The general consensus both inside and outside of Donegal is that we’re in for another long summer.JOE BROLLY – “DERRY HAVEN’T A HOPE OF BEATING DONEGAL IN ULSTER SEMI-FINAL” was last modified: June 18th, 2015 by Mark ForkerShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:DerrrydonegalGAAJOE BROLLYnewsSportUlster SFClast_img
